“ No admission fee, no library fee and free transportation from your doorstep to the college. Please admit your ward into any engineering branch of your choice under the management quota at a fee prescribed by the government”
SMS’s of the above kind are flooding the mobile phones of parents of engineering aspirants in Andhra Pradesh.
There are 298 Engineering Colleges Affiliated to JNTU Hyderabad and totally 600 + colleges in overall state. There are many other Engineering colleges have been added to the list.
Why Parents here are so crazy about Engineering? The Students who do not Qualified also opting Engineering by payment seats. Hefty concessions in tuition fees are on offer. Some colleges are also offering the waiver of special fees, while others are dangling everything from free books and notebooks to free laptops.
The reason: a drought of applicants, which is threatening the very existence of several of these private engineering colleges.
This Year Total Engineering Seats available : 3,00,000 + seats
Total Students who managed to qualify in the engineering entrance test : 2,00,000 lakh students
There is large Difference in between seats and qualifies students. This means nearly one lakh of seats will go a- begging this year.
What is worse, the All India Council for Technical Education ( AICTE), the apex body which controls technical education in the country, has tentatively approved the creation of another 40,000 to 50,000 seats this year in various branches in some of the reputed — and sought after — engineering colleges across the state.
This has left a huge question mark over many of the newer colleges, most of which are not known for their academic excellence.
Last year over 45,000 students who qualified for Engineering , did not actually join, as they did not get the course or college of their choice.
Of the total three lakh seats, nearly 2.1 lakh seats have to be filled by students under the government quota. But the number of students who have qualified in the entrance test is itself 2.03 lakh. When the government quota is not filled up, where is the question of filling up the management quota?” a private engineering college official asked.
Unfortunately the people in AP, know about Engineering and Medicine and no other faculty. That is why number of Engineering and Medical colleges came up, with no standards. Education has become business in AP. One day or other, there may not be much value for such degrees. Engineering has become common degree not professional degree.
Finally We Conclude:
The education system in AP has been collapsed. If Chandrababu had a vision to create IT base and engineers for AP, YSR screwed it up by converting it into a vote bank. YSR has done the biggest damage to AP on all fronts but has left thousands of crores of rupees for his “ever constipation patient” Jagan to give it as a bribe in the form of odarpu fund.
Engg. colleges in AP have no standard, no faculty and no quality except some Good colleges.
At least Now JNTU Open its Eyes and see these issues and solve them Other wise the graduates from Andhra Pradesh Will have No Respect in the World……let the future be screwed for others…
